Calcasieu Parish’s mandatory evacuation has been lifted, effective immediately.
Police Jury President Tony Stelly announced the lifting of the order at 9 a.m.
“Please be careful on re-entry,” Sheriff Tony Mancuso said. “We’ll have a lot of traffic issues .. so please use caution.”
For people coming home from the north, “U.S. 165 and 171 will have a lot of utility crews, damage crews and assessment teams,” warned Rock Palermo, one of the officials speaking at the multi-agency briefing. “Food, fuel and services may be limited.”
Palermo recommended that southbound traffic take I-49 instead.
He added: “Don’t miss an opportunity to get fuel on the way back.”
There are no road closures, according to Louisiana State Police.
Calcasieu had “mostly light damage,” OEP director Dick Gremillion said.
In Lake Charles, there were 11 arrests, nine of them for curfew violation, Police Chief Don Dixon said. There were zero looting arrests, he added.
City services will resume Wednesday, Mayor Randy Roach said — except for garbage pickup, which will resume Thursday.
In Sulphur, “water’s fine, sewer’s fine and our power’s on,” Mayor Ron LeLeux said. “Be very careful coming home.”
